June COVID-19 Sentiment Study finds bright spots for car dealers

Last month, CarGurus surveyed 505 car shoppers to see if their attitudes and preferences around car shopping had changed since our last sentiment study in April. Overall, the survey found that there is reason for car dealers to be optimistic despite the current health crisis.

As consumers begin to emerge from lockdown, fewer shoppers are reporting delaying their car purchases, and even among those delaying their purchase, the majority (70%) are actively researching. Still, it’s clear that the pandemic will have a lasting effect on the way consumers shop for cars—66% of current prospective buyers would still prefer to use contactless services like virtual appointments, at-home test drives, or home delivery (consistent with April’s survey).
